ZOO LOGIC

Whatever the arguments
Bandied about
Preservation of species,
I’m a devout admirer of zoos.

My elbows are constantly
Sliding along
The limits of safety,
In spite of the pong
From animal loos.

In front of cages I
March up and down
In step with the occupants,
Ignoring the frown
I get from the lion.

Gorillas I’ll scrutinise
But from afar
Even though they are caged,
The thickness of the bar
I’ll never rely on.
