SOME "LOST"
GUESTBOOK ENTRIES

An attack by hackers on our host Guestbook site in March/April 2003 resulted in the loss of all our previous guestbook entries. I answered most queries about Sutton and family histories myself, and so I'm able to recreate the essence of some of those enquiries here, if not all the threads and answers. If you previously signed our guestbook, and were hoping for some help or information from us but don't see your name here, do let me know.

Similarly, if some of your details are here, but not your email address, then let us know if you'd like me to add it. For any wishing to reply to these requests, if you need to see what has been sent so far, let me know. What appears below is only part of it, the "bare bones" so to speak, to give an idea of who's looking for what.

In future, as of now, I'll keep a seperate record of all guestbook entries, email addresses, etc.

What a wonderful web site, like so many others I am researching my family history I have a connection to the Habbershaws of Sutton, Wawne, and other villages in the area. I have a wonderful will for a William Habbershaw who died in 1819 who had proerty in Sutton unfortunatly it doesn't say exactly where. i will certainly be visiting the exhibition soon and if anyone would like a copy of the will, please e-mail me.
Could you tell me if there are Habbershaw graves in Sutton or Wawne.

REPLY MESSAGE: Hello Cassie, from Barnsley The Habbershaws? Yes, David Habbershaw leased the Ship Inn from 1815, and he and wife Jane held it for several years; she continued there as a widow until 1832, I think. Happy hunting, and we'd love you to visit our Resource Room. Merrill

Robert & Sarah had 9 children, Robert, b1773, George, b1777, Lily b1781, Mary(1) b 1783, William, b1778, Isabella b 1784, Mary(2) b 1787, Elizabeth b 1790 & Thomas b 1794. I've visited Beverley Archives but unable to find out either; 1. where Robert came from 2. any family buried Sutton.

looking for any info on the ABRAM family of Wawne, a family of farmers, of Grange Farm. I spent a lot of my childhood holidays in East Yorkshire, but had never heard of it!! (ed. note: Wawne). My mothers family is from Beverley, where my late Great Aunt was very involved with life at St.Mary's. My grandfather was a corn merchant in Leven, and I have only recently begun working on the family tree. I will probably be in England this summer, so maybe you could tell me where the church is with the Abram graves. On the 1881 census they lived at Garth Grange, does it still exist? Thanks again for your reply, Judith Burrows

Looking for THACKER information . . on the trail of Mary Thacker,(nee Bennett) my other Grandmother, and thank you for your information, but I don't think they are any relation. Mary was born in Whittlesea Cambridgeshire, in 1864, and her Parents were Robert and Mary!!!!

I spent my entire younger days in Sutton; played soccer and cricket for the village; went to Sunday School and Church; bought fish and chips from Mrs Brown etc etc. I left the UK a long time ago but I have returned many times - I'm saddened by the changes to the views that were available during my days. My mother, her brother and his wife are buried in St James' Churchyard - I always visit when I am in the UK. Thank you, John S Kemp

. . is a nephew of F/Lt Paterson Hughes, the Australian RAF pilot buried in the churchyard. Looking for details on his uncle, and anyone who knows the whereabouts of Pat's sword, which mysteriously turned up in an antique shop in Kent but has now disappeared again.
