This change has had to come about because we can no longer use the st-james/st-james.htm portion of our address. St James' Church now has its own website, to which we are allied and will always link, and likewise they back to us in the museum. But continuance of our old address is confusing to searchers using Google and other search engines. In fact, a change such as this is long overdue, and it is time the last part of our web address reflected exactly who we are and where we are. We are a Family History Resource Centre and local history museum, and not the church. Church information is on the lilac button.
It will always have someone's name at the front of the address, and for now that will be mine because I host this museum site on my own Karoo webspace. In years to come, it will be on someone else's webspace and will have to change again. The only way such changes could be avoided in the future is to have a dedicated server, with a proper 'domain name', and that costs money. So we do what we can using 'donated' webspace for now, and for free.
That may help to explain why some of the pictures, and future slideshows or short video clips, are now hosted on another volunteer's webspace known as northcroft, also on Karoo. This is done purely to increase our total webspace for more photos and images.
Our new address will be as follows:
http://www.rhaywood.karoo.net/suttonandwawne/suttonandwawne.htm
where the name suttonandwawne exactly replaces where it previously said st-james
As of late on the 10 February, the new address now works on the link above, and loads the Home Page with its side menu. All the relevant pages after that now load properly. As far as I can tell, all pages and associated photos or images have migrated over to the new address.
For quite a while, perhaps for several months, this old address will have the link on it to the new, so if the link to the new address is ever forgotten, you can still use the old address. It will mean just one more 'click' of the mouse to take you to these pages that you've been used to seeing. But it would be quicker for you if you update your favourites or bookmarks accordingly.
I realise that this is going to cause quite a lot of inconvenience, updating bookmarks, etc, and apologise in advance for it, but the time to change it has come, and I have tried to make it as seamless and as unnoticeable as possible.
Thank you all for your continued support and understanding.
